As DIY Defense sees greater development, common platforms offer new promises. Among these are bullpup platforms, many of which use AR-style fire control groups, granting a familiar handling and ease of use. A bullpup firearm is a configuration in which the trigger lies in front of the breech, ultimately providing a greater barrel length in an experientially smaller package.

The latest two designs to explore this configuration do so by emulating classic French designs with the 3DP90 and the FamAR, while still integrating various quality of life features present in many current printable pistol caliber carbines. On the other hand, the scARpup and Scrunglr designs are meant to integrate with existing firearm packages by offering some form of conversion. The Scrunglr, for example, is compatible with the 37MM & 65MM Can Cannon packages from F5 which integrate with normal AR-15 Upper Receivers. The scARpup plays with the scARpion design, but takes the prize for having the most weight and features behind the firing grip, allowing for an incredibly short rifle length .22LR printable project. We are excited to see where these explorations with FCGs end up, and what boundaries are pushed in the pursuit of it.

The Black Lotus Coalition has made a variety of remixes for their shoulder mounted 34MM Signaling Device: "The Black Cat Aircraft and Manufacturing SD-34SC - Version A - Model 1". All the classic remix styles (9+), ranging from Honeycomb to Gears and Camo, are here so that you can really show off your prints. Given how much surface area there is on the chassis, this is one of the better designs to have some of these textures applied. DEFCAD is always excited to host these re-interpretations of basic designs, and what's the point of additive manufacturing if you don't take advantage of its benefits?

While a reliable weapon should be your first choice in a self-defense situation, circumstances will sometime call for greater needs. The Bootleg Panoramic Night Vision Goggles (and similar projects) aim to bring control of low-light scenarios to the common man, rejecting the notion of spending five figures on a set of panoramic NVGs. With a robust construction and a smart design approach (making use of digital low light sensors), homemade NVGs like the BPNVGs are great DIY compliments to defense.

Since the unveiling of the 3D printed Liberator, its descendants have shaken the world, and law enforcement is at a loss in reponse. The Montreal police just recently found dozens of handguns and suppressors in a series of searches around June 19th.

"Police say it's very hard to trace 3D-printed firearms because there are no serial numbers, making it more difficult to know where the weapon came from, who bought it and what it was used for.

Police did say the weapons are being built locally."

With its so-called "freeze" on legal handgun purchases and transfers, you could say Canada gauranteed it would have a printable gun problem. Be careful what you wish for, Legislator.
