No matter what is happening in the world, DEFCAD will continue to host projects in active development, and we are spoiled for choice week after week. While 60+ projects have been deployed to date this September, there are some especially interesting small caliber small arms that have caught our eye.
The G22V4, provided by Coop, is an evolution of one of the most longstanding projects for 3DP firearms, tracing its lineage back to the earliest FOSSCAD packs. The G22V4 is not only incredibly easy to put together, but has an extensive series of accessories (suppressors, ammo caches, compensators, stocks, etc) and grips designed for the platform. Chambered for .22LR, and meant to be used with the AWCY 10/22 Barrel, this is a time-tested project that both veterans and newcomers alike will have fun putting together.
Professor Parabellum once again proves he's one of the best of our designers with the DIY AR9 V2. Not content with relying on parts kits for the development of 9MM platforms, the Professor has come up with an elegant upper receiver assembly that is entirely manufacturable with off-the-shelf components. If you can’t believe it, be sure to download his Construction Guide and see just how simply this project comes together. If you don’t want to go down that rabbit hole and just want to pick up the Matador Montego AR-9 Upper Receiver, then AWCY? has conveniently released The Slothador just for you. Both projects are setup for the Sten Magazine, so be sure to download them today at DEFCAD.

Since DEFCAD’s initial coverage of the state-of-the-art in DIY Can Launchers, there has been a flurry of development in the space. With fresh designs, remixes, and integrations with other projects, can launchers are the hottest trend in DIY Defense.
The first of the recent batch of launchers comes from Stubbs, with his GP37 caseless 37MM project. The primary innovation here comes from its electrical ignition system, which was in response to the recent primer shortage. This design can mount to picatinny rail systems on other rifle platforms, or be used as its own stand-alone apparatus.
Our next 37MM launcher comes from Krrawn, who has taken inspiration from Are We Cool Yet’s NT79, with the MCRN Boarder. Somehow combining the design features of the infamous 590 Shockwave and the M79 grenade launcher in a cyberpunk package, this will go down as one of the very best remixes on DEFCAD.
Our next 2 launchers are for 26.5MM projectiles and both deliver the goods. The Nameless by DannyMeatball has the simplicity of the MCRN with a robust and eminently practical design. The G22V4 in our new release stack was structured by Coop to allow launching capability with the Shorty Shart Launcher, which is a forward thinking approach to maintaining the design’s lifespan. That both designs are able to be built with off-the-shelf parts is a testament to the capabilities of the designers.
Encode Productions has just released the trailer for Jessica Solce’s newest documentary: DEATH ATHLETIC - A DISSIDENT ARCHITECTURE
8 years in the making, this film is an extensive meditation upon the rise of Ghost Guns in the American political consciousness. This is a story of rebellion, technical development, and the battle over the union of the First and Second Amendments. Director Solce has an excellent interview with Vice that you can check out here.
Pre-Sales are available at the film’s website with an October 21st release on iTunes, Amazon, and Google.
Finishing off this week’s newsletter is another contribution to the DEFCAD library: The Black Rifle: M16 Retrospective.
In 1987, R. Blake Stevens and Edward C. Ezell put together an exhaustive history of the classic M16 platform. This rare collector's item surveys the full development process of the firearm, including prior iterations such as the AR-10, details on the development of the 5.56 cartridge, and the many technical and manufacturing hurdles that were overcome in the production of the rifle. There are hundreds of fully-illustrated pages that every aspiring developer and avid hobbyist should be chomping at the bit to dive into. Grab a copy of this masterpiece today at DEFCAD.
