The long anticipated Sudy 23/52 from Black Lotus Coalition ( likestoshootstuff in particular) has finally been released! This is a receiver pack for the PPS-43 platform that is compatible with either an AR-15 fire control group, for automatic usage, or the original bolt and fire control group for fully semi-automatic fire. This sleek and simple design will cement its place among the varied and complex kit guns in DIY Defense and DEFCAD is proud to host this BLC design.

Mussy has come out with a fun spin on the nearly 100% Printable Grizzly v3 platform known simply as the Grizzly XL. Mussy and zer0fux has set the stage with the .22LR break action rifle and it is no surprise that one of the original creators has done it again with the XL design. This remix has come with an ergonomic and useable platform which extends the break apart function all the way into a foldable platform. An excellent choice for those new to building their own firearms from scratch.

Rounding out this week we have The Chimera 1.4 from pilotgeek. This Hybrid 3D Printed and Metal Framed Break Barrel Shotgun is intended to use .410 shells and while it may be a hybrid platform you should not consider it a kit gun as the metallic components are easy to source on and off-line. It comes with some of the clearest documentation and instructions seen on DEFCAD, and fills a major gap in the DIY Defense hobbyist's arsenal.

While consumer grade 3D printing prides itself on ease of use and production of complex parts, as compared to traditional manufacturing techniques, it's important to remember that just having a printer and the requisite files is not usually enough. Your printer itself relies on specific coordinates to be input using G-Code and specific settings for part placement, support, and how much material is used for the print. This entire process is done using a slicer, and the most popular one is Ultimaker Cura. The 'slice' is how a part is broken down into separate two-dimensional layers which are stacked from the build plate in order to create a three-dimensional shape.

Many designers on DEFCAD are good at providing part-specific settings as they relate to in-fill (or how much material should be in between walls on any given part), but this assumes that the end user is at least proficient with their chosen slicer program. This has been made easier over the years since contemporary slicers have presets for most consumer grade printers. Your slicer settings and overall part usefulness are based on what material you want to use and the speed and size of your prints is limited by the printer you have. Once you get all the settings in place, playing close attention to adhesion and supports, you can slice the model and then export it to your printer. Get started printing today with DEFCAD!
