Pop Bottle Cyclonic Separator for Electro-Chemical Machining (ECM)

about

This is a cyclonic separator made to fit on top of a pop bottle designed for the ECM process. You will need to cut a hole in a plastic bottle cap and glue it into place in order to produce the proper seal.

To be clear this separator will not remove everything from the solution, but it should remove any larger particles that would clog or damage the pump. This should lead to a faster flow rate and an increased pump lifespan.

I have printed version one (green) and used it with a Coke Zero bottle cap. The placement for the cap was quite tight. Once it was pushed into place I wasn't able to get it out. I was therefore not able to put glue in the correct place to make it sealed properly.

I developed version two (blue) with a slightly larger diameter, so the cap isn't so snug, and a minor extension of the cyclone separator body. I have not tried this yet, but it should work just fine.

Print settings using HATCHBOX PLA:

  • Nozzle size: 0.40mm
  • Layer height: 0.16mm
  • Infill density: 100%
  • Nozzle temperature: 230°C +-5°C
  • Bed temperature: 60°C
  • Cooling: 100%
  • Support Structure: Tree
  • Tree Support Branch Angle: 40
  • Support Overhang Angle: 75
  • Wall Line Count: At least 3 with a 0.40 mm nozzle. Most walls are 2 mm thick. This should ensure that the infill is 100% wall in those areas.

Disclaimer: As you all know, producing the FGC9 carries with it inherent risk. I do not claim any responsibility for injuries that may result from using these models in a way that may cause injury. If you choose to use this product you are responsible for yourself.
