"Soviet Skewer" AKM Spike Bayonet: FFFTech/FFFTechnology
A bayonet design, using common steel rod sizes available for purchase online and at hardware stores.
The bayonet mount is a single piece design that utilizes a compliant mechanism; it's lug locking tab, as a built in leaf spring. The design mounts over a standard AKM slant muzzle break and to spec bayonet lug.
One does not need to press down the lug locking tab for removal, as it's meant to simply hold the design in place from falling off the rifle. and a hard pull can be used if quick removal is needed.
Comes in two varieties:
*8mm Spike Mount
*10mm Spike Mount (Definitely recommended, for poking larger holes!)
Printer Used: Monoprice Maker Select Plus
Filament Used: PLA+
First Layer Print Height: .20mm
Standard Layer Height: .16mm
Wall Thickness: .40
Wall Perimeters: 5 - 6
Infill Pattern: Gyroid
Material Flow: 100%
Support Material Percentage: 20%
Supports only needed for under the locking tab for the bayonet lug.
Print the mount on it's front face.
*8mm x 300mm Steel Rod
*100mm x 300mm Steel Rod
*2 Part Epoxy
*40 Grit Sandpaper (Rough tip forming)
*150 Grip Sandpaper (Fine tip forming and surface finishing)
*Sanding Belt (Optional, if you don't want to hand sand and have one.)
*Rotary Tool Sanding Drum (For rounding the spike tip)
Due to the heat given off from firing an AK, it's highly recommended this design be treated as a: "No ammo left, affix bayonets!", type tool. The muzzle ring is overbuilt to handle impact and some heat stress, and should be fine being attached whilst firing a small amount of rounds, but mag dumping will inevitably melt the muzzle ring.
If one plans shooting a higher volume of rounds with it attached, I'd advise printing in ASA, PLA+ (Not standard PLA) or ABS; though continual firing will still eventually cause structural failure.
