PMR-U AP Stake Mine

about

The PMR-U is a locally manufactured Anti-Personnel (AP) fragmentation stake mine used during the the civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mine body consists of two plastic halves glued together with an obvious seam around the middle. Located at the top of the mine is a fuze well while the base accepts a steel stake. Some versions of the mine are extremely simplified with no threaded connections at all. Both an adapter for the fuze and stake are sometimes glued into the mine body. An MUV type percussion trip-wire fuze, usually the UMP-1 (Yugoslav copy of the Czech RO-1) is simply pushed through the fuze well into the explosive which is often housed in two 35mm film canisters placed end-to-end. The explosive is surrounded by plaster of Paris with steel fragmentation added (usually short pieces of 6mm dia steel bar).

The body of the mine is mounted on a steel stake with additional support provided by a bent steel bar welded to the stake. Mine bodies themselves can alternatively be found tied to trees with wire or rope.

Since the mine was manufactured in small workshops in various locations, differences in construction, explosive used and number of fragments may be encountered. The mine is usually black or olive green in color and unmarked.

Installation and operation of mine

The fuze is fitted with a percussion detonator assembly and inserted into the fuze socket of a mine previously installed in place. An anchored trip wire is then attached to the loop of a striker retaining pin. Sufficient pull by an enemy soldier on the tripwire will extract the pin, releasing the striker onto the primer. The detonator causes an explosion of the main explosive charge (100g Trotyl or Plastite) scattering fragmentation in all directions. The effective range of this mine is likely to be 5 to 10 meters.

Full .step assembly + STL, images.

The 8MM blank adapter included makes for an excellent training tool.
