about

ARD-1-USA Grenade: Laffs Dynamics

The ARD-1-USA (Aerosol Release Device) is a simple, 3D printed grenade that releases smoke via burning of an R-Candy mixture.

Printer Used: Ender 3 V2

Filament Used: PLA+

Print Settings:

  • Extruder: 220C
  • Bed: 56C
  • First Layer Print Height: .2mm
  • Standard Layer Height: .12
  • Wall Thickness: .40
  • Wall Perimeters: 9+
  • Infill: 80%+

Materials Needed:

  • Granulated Sugar, 8 Parts
  • Potassium Nitrate, 12 Parts
  • Paraffin Wax, 10 Parts
  • 3mm Pyrotechnics Fuse (100mm - 110mm in Length)

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Create the R-Candy (It'll take a lot longer to type out all the instructions; instead, check NOTES for URL link to a detailed
  2. instruction video.)
  3. Pour R-Candy into it's central receptacle until it reaches the 5mm from the top edge. Be sure it's cooled down enough to not soften or melt the printed polymer device casing, but is still semi-fluidic (Basically paste like).
  4. Tamp the R-Candy mixture down, making sure to release any air bubbles.
  5. Bore a 4mm - 5mm hole roughly 50mm down the center of the propellant mixture, or until you reach the bottom of the polymer device casing.
  6.  Insert the pyrotechnics fuse into the bore hole in the propellant.
  7. Pinch some propellant material against the fuse, as to keep it stuck in place
  8. Thread the loose end of the device's fuse through the tapered fuse guide, and out the top central ventilation port.
  9. Press the two device halves together. They shouldn't need adhesive, as they're meant to be a friction fit.
  10. Press the fuse protection tab over the ventilation ports and over the device's exposed fuse.
  11. Store in a cool, dry place until ready for use.
