The Kolowrat is a PKM inspired stock for the AR15 Platform.

It is part of a larger project for the belt fed ar15 lower I am working on. There are 'eastern' and 'western' styled variants in the works as there are wildly different ergonomic and ease of use features on LMGs, GPMGS, and LSWSs from both. This stock fits a standard rifle buffer and 1/4-28 M16 stock bolt.

The PKM and many other light or general purpose machineguns have a rear grip surface or vertical grip intended to control the platform from the rear. The force applied at the extreme rear of the system is the most convenient and ergonomic way to rotate and cycle it onto and between targets or predetermined areas of fire.

The "shoulder thing that goes up" or shoulder rest is another convenient feature of LMGs. It allows the user to temporarily rest the platform on their shoulder while manipulating the complex loading of an LMG. Additionally it is critical for the long term emplacement of an LSW or LMG where the end user is going to be staring at a point for several hours.

The shoulder rest measures 45mm from the two outside faces and I recommend one M5 bolt 50mm long, with washers and a nylon locking nut to maintain tension. When properly installed it should be able to stay in the up position under its weight and be stiff enough to not open on its own.

The bottom of the buttplate is secured with a 20mm long M5 bolt and nut with washers.

There is a 1/4" long hole in the bottom sections that is intended for a roughly 5-1/2" wooden dowel or pegs to be inserted to assist in aligning the stock sections for assembly. The stock can be welded together with a solder iron if printed in plastic, and wood glue does work on many Wood based PLA filaments. Assemble the buffer over a rifle buffer tube but ensure glue does not get onto the buffer.

The PKM does not have a rear sling mount of any kind despite having a front sling mount, and all pictures of a PKM will either show you the sling looped around the loop of the stock, or the base of the stock, or the PKM carried with no sling. Do not place it at the front of the stock or it will interfere with the charging handle.
