Ukrainian K-2 / Ersatz POM-2 Drone Dropped AP Mine

about

# Bandera K-2 / Ukr Ersatz POM-2

A new Ukrainian manufactured 3D printed anti-personnel mine which copies the POM-2 and is intended to be dropped using small UAVs.

The mine has been manufactured in small quantities by volunteers and mimics the operation of the Soviet POM-2 scatterable anti-personnel mine. The fuze of the mine is electronic and is initiated when tension is applied to any one of the four sensor wires which are 5.5m to 5.7m in length. The power source is a single 1.5v AAA battery. The plastic components of the mine are made using a 3D printer, the material being either PETG or PLA. A fragmentation sleeve made from 4mm steel wire having been coiled around a rod with a diameter of 32mm surrounds the explosive charge. Additionally, 2mm-2.5mm deep slots are cut into the length of the coil sleeve to increase the fragmentation effect. The fragmentation sleeve is seperated from the main charge which is housed in a length of 32mm dia plastic pipe with a wall thickness of 1.5mm.

The main charge consists of 72 grams of PVV-7 plastic explosive into which is placed the electrical EDP detonator connected to an AAA battery sealed in heat shrink tubing. The fragmentation assembly is attached to the rest of the printed mine components using hot glue.

The designation 'K-2' indicates development by the K-2 54th Brigade, a highly decorated volunteer group specializing in drone combat. Some examples may also be marked 10 OMBR (110th Separate Mechanized Brigade).

Variations of the mine incorporate printed warhead bodies which include cavities for shrapnel.

Operation:

Before departure, two wires protruding from the top cap are twisted together to arm the mine (Some versions of the mine include a microswitch arming assembly on top). The safety pin wire is extracted which holds the tail fin assembly to the body of the mine. When in flight the fins orientate and stabilize the mine in the upright position. When the mine impacts the ground the bolt assembly will stake itself into the soil (if it impacts a solid object the warhead section may break away from the rest of the mine). Upon impact the tail fin assembly will be forced down under inertia, releasing the four spring loaded sensors which consist of an m5 nut contained in a plastic housing, each attached to a 5.5 to 5.7 meter length of kevlar fishing thread. The ends of each of the four threads are tied to a needle located in the center of the mine fuze housing.

When a force of around 3.5kg is applied to any of the sensors, the needle (to which part of the circuit is wired) bends and contacts a metal washer surrounding it (to which the rest of the circuit is wired) completing the circuit and triggering the detonator.

Constant innovation being shown does not preclude that the mine may in future incorporate various anti-disturbance triggering methods such as tilt, vibration, proximity or magnetic initiation.

*Includes .STEP assembly, original STL & available documentation.
